Vaughan, Attorney worked for United States Senator Robert Morgan as a legislative clerk. Later, Donald R. Vaughan, Attorney worked as an economic advisor to North Carolina Governor James B. Hunt, whereupon he served as an attorney to the Governor’s small and large business councils. 

In 1991, Donald R. Vaughan, Attorney was elected to the Greensboro City Council where he served two terms as Mayor Pro Tem. He was later elected to the North Carolina State Senate where he served for 4 years.
